Welcome 2019!
I just love a new year, don’t you? It’s the fresh start to the next 365 days. You can literally plan out your goals for the whole year, big and small.
And what I love most before planning my new year goals is to reflect on the past year. What happened in the last 365 days of my life? I literally try to reflect on everything– friends, family, business, health, finances, happiness, challenges, self care and the list goes on and on. I take a good amount of time to do this while enjoying a cup of coffee and just relaxing and reflecting on the year.
Some of the questions I ask myself:
What did I set as goals in 2018?
Why did I have these goals?
What did I accomplish?
What didn’t I have a chance to work on? And do I still want to work on it in 2019?
What were my biggest struggles? How did I handle them? Would I do anything differently?
Who did I help? Did I give back to the community?
Was I a great friend and family member?
What was I most proud of?
What do I wish I would have had time to do?
And finally…What do I want 2019 to look like?
When it comes to planning a new year I love to have new ambitious goals while also tackling ones that I didn’t quite achieve the past year. This gives a good balance. If I had goals from the past year that I didn’t meet I ask myself, “If I focus on this in 2019 will it still be valuable to me?” If yes, I keep it as a goal and focus more attention on mastering it! If not, I cross it off and focus my attention on another goal that is valuable for me!
You can have as many or as few goals as you want! My personal list always has atleast 3 goals that meet three areas of personal criteria. One goal for selfcare, one goal for giving back to the community, and one goal for personal development.
Last but not least, my top goal every year is to be happy and healthy. I remember watching a TED talk a few years back. It was a young teenager who delivered it and it talked about his life goals. When someone asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up, he said “I want to be happy and healthy”. Typically you would find someone responding, “doctor, engineer, nurse, astronaut, police officer, etc. etc.” This wise teenager’s response has always stuck with me.
So in 2019, above all, I want to be happy and healthy! I wish the same for everyone- may 2019 be incredible!
